- Hi. I used to work in the single Orlando, FL Amiga store. We supported
- only the Amiga. We went under, even after a move to a lower-rent store;
- it turned out the Orlando just can't support an Amiga-only store. I know
- it's ridiculous, but it's true.
-
- As it turned out, our biggest problem was mail-order. Our customers
- didn't want to pay for the convenience of having the product Right Now,
- nor for walk-in advice, tech support, friendly faces, or somebody who
- knew what they were using. They'd rather wait for it to come through the
- mail.
-
- We only had two profitable items. One was the Video Toaster, which we
- sold to several area attractions, television stations, video production
- studios, and even a few individuals. The other was our consignment
- table, where we allowed users to sell their old software and hardware.
- That turned into the largest part of our store.
-
- Too bad no one was interested in buying the new software that would have
- kept us alive. I thought for a while our prices were too high, or our
- service was bad; but when we went under, another store opened. Their
- prices were about comparable, their service similar. They specialized in
- Video Toaster. They went down too, about a year and a half later.
-
- Ah well. I often wonder if all Amiga users are this way. I hope not.
- Meanwhile, I think the examples set by the two previous stores in Orlando
- have scared off any other Amiga retailers. I know that _I_ wouldn't open
- an Amiga store in Orlando at this point!

- Good luck, Scott. In Orlando we're stuck with mail order and a user's
- group, and it's because the Orlando Amiga users seemed to want it that
- way.
